No. 50. Tojinbaka – Monument for Rebellious Workers
Memorial on Ishigaki to Chinese workers who rebelled against slave-like conditions on a ship transporting them to California in 1852. Islanders came to their aid, but many died in the ensuing conflict. The monument was erected in 1971.
